"I have nothing else."

Happy Fab Friday!

For the past few weeks, we have been watching the “American Idol” auditions and Hollywood week.  While it is jam-packed with drama, drama, drama (which Harrison likes to fast-forward through to get to the point...) there are a few lines that many of the contestants keep saying:

“I want this really, really bad.”

“I’m gonna give it everything I have.”

“I have nothing else.”

This last one really strikes me every time.  At first because I think it’s sort of sad if they don’t have anything besides this singing competition.  

But more in thinking about it, it reminds me of a point in the sermon from church this last Sunday.  We are studying prayer and the pastor made a point that we have NOTHING that is not from God and we can do NOTHING without God.  His illustration was that most of us would leave church that day, get in the car and go home...which we feel we are capable of doing.  But unless God allowed us to get home safely, we would not!

God has given us EVERYTHING that we have and NOTHING we have comes from anywhere but Him.  

A verse that has been constantly on my mind lately is Matthew 7:11 -  “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”.

God gives good gifts to His children!  What a blessing and a safe place to rest!

Without Him....I have nothing else.
